Movie Description:
Inspired by pioneering outdoorsman Yvon Chouinard's freewheeling 1968 van trip to Patagonia, South America, a band of bliss-seeking surfer-mountaineers sets out in 2007 to remake the journey in this adventure documentary. Jeff Johnson and his buddies, including Timmy Oneill (a team member of Rios Libres) begin by climbing NA Wall on El Capitan. The group continues south hugging the coast in a sailboat, stopping at the Galapagos Islands and Easter Island before arriving in Patagonia -- a region that's still breathtaking but is now besieged by environmental threats.
About Rios Libres:
Rios Libres, a group of talented and passionate adventurers has joined the fight to protect Patagonia from an ill-conceived dam proposal that would block the Baker and Pascua Rivers – the lifeblood in the heart of this diversely rich region. Using photos, film and the written and spoken word, we seek to inspire people to act in order to increase pressure on key decision makers so that these rivers will remain free from dams. Five of seven team members call Flagstaff home: acclaimed adventure photographer James Q Martin, accomplished cinematographer Ed George, independent filmmaker Denise Stilley, film producer John Tveten and conservation biologist Chris Kassar. Renowned author Craig Childs and Patagonia ambassador and spokesman Timmy ONeill hail from Colorado and complete the team.
